Summer Time Diy: Citronella Candles

The number one summer enemy where I am from is the hated mosquito! They are  aggressive and painful around my house and 100% times worse at my fiancés. So for us to be able to enjoy the summer outdoors we need citronella candles and bug spray! Today I will show you how to make the Citronella Candles and tomorrow I will show you how to make essential oil Bug Spray.

First let me explain why I make my own instead of buying them! The ones that come from the store are full of fragrances and chemicals. We all end up breathing the fumes in and they end up in our blood stream. So in my book thats definitely a NO NO. In mine I use organic beeswax, cotton wick, and therapeutic grade essential oils. All perfectly good for your body.

You'll Need:
♡Organic Beeswax (I got mine on amazon)
♡Mason Jars (Walmart)
♡Cotton Wick (Michaels Craft Store)
♡Small Washers (Lowes Or Home Depo)
♡Young Living Citronella Essential Oil (Got to the Oils
♡Bamboo Skewers (Walmart)

What to do:
First you will want to tie your wicks to your washers for each masion jar. Set the washer with the wick tied to it in the bottle of the jar. Place a skewer on top of the jar and wrap the wick around it 2 times. Then cut the wick and tape to skewer. Shown in a picture below!

Now you want to get busy melting beeswax. This took me forever. There is not exact science to melting wax. I got a glass measuring pitcher and microwaved it at 50 second increments. Do this until 100% liquid with no off white floaties. For each 2 cups of melted liquid beeswax I added 40 to 45 drops. I filled the jars to the line where the tin top would end. Then repeat this process till all mason jars are full.

Let your jars sit over night before trimming the wick and lighting! Once they are done you can light them and enjoy! The scent is very light and not at all over whelming!

Hope you enjoy comment below and let me know how this works for you.

Preparing for my First Vendor Event

For the past 2 days I have been working from 7 till 11 on creating and labeling my Etsy products for a vendor event this Saturday! I cannot tell you how exhausted I am. I am writing this from the bathtub because laying in bed just wasn't relaxing enough.
So far I must say I love creating my own products. I enjoying labeling them and getting creative. I have had a few hiccups so far that messed me up, but I am doing good.
So what have I been making?!?! I make Balth Salts, Bath Fizzies, Margarita Salts, and Sugar Scrubs. I infuse all of them with essential oils.
So why did you start making your own products?!?!

a) I got bored with just having an online business and college homework. A girl has got to do something with her hands so I took up kitting and DIY projects. But sadly you cannot do DIY projects for free, so I decided to make it a business.

b) After attending a class about how harmful chemicals, fragrances, and dyes are I knew I needed to make a change. When I looked at my bathroom products I almost lost it! The chemicals cause cancer, ADHD, and memory loss!!! So I decided to make the products I could not find from a trusted source.

c) A little sisterly competition; my sister started an Esty and I couldn't let her one up me! But seriously I love her products (lotions, chemical free make up, and face toner)!!!

That is pretty much why I started. I prayed about it and felt God wanted me too. It has not been very profitable yet, but this event this weekend will tell all!

So what have I learned during the past two days:

-There is a setting for when you print on labels and glossy crardstock! Who knew?!?! All my labels were messing up, so thank God my parents are both geeks, my dad told me there was a setting! MIND BLOWN!!!

-Salt needs to be stored in an air tight container. I have had to blend chunks of salt all day to make it salvageable. So half of my bath salts are fine grained salt.

-Do NOT buy the cheapest containers! They are good quality but man are the lids hard to get on the first time!

Overall it has been fun! It makes me excited to be on my homestead running my business and doing DIY projects daily. Oh how fun it will be!
